It is home to many international institutions (EU, NATO) which makes for a very diverse and international population. There is a very lively art scene and many museums, big and small, for art lovers. Public transportation (busses, trains, and trams) is affordable and efficient, making it easy to get around town. Some of the landmarks worth a visit, are the world famous Manneken Pis; this little bronze unrinating statue attracts visitors from all over the world. The Grand Place is a beautiful medieval square at the heart of the city, where you will find centuries old restaurants and pubs. Outside of Brussels, you should plan a day trip to the medieval towns of Antwerp, Bruges, Gent, Namur. Belgium is also the country of beer, with over 1150 different kinds, so don’t forget to visit a brewery and a chocolate factory as well; your friends and family will probably never forgive you if you dont bring back some Begian Chocolate!
